Places to visit in Dehradun:- Situated amidst the breathtaking Garhwal Himalayas amidst the Doon Valley, Dehradun is a mesmerizing hill station beckoning travelers all year round.

The city is known for its pleasant weather and provides a gateway to the famous hill stations of Mussoorie, Nainital, Almora, Ranikhet, and pilgrim destinations like Kedarnath, Badrinath, and Haridwar.

01. The Thrilling Robber’s Cave

Take a stroll through the thrilling Robber’s Cave, also known as Gucchupani by the locals. The cave is famous because of the fact that river water flows out from the middle of the cave.

This cave is believed to be the abode of Lord Shiva. As you go further into the cave, you will be mesmerized by the beauty of mother nature. This place is a must-visit if you are in Dehradun.

The amazing thing about these caves is that a stream of water magically appears in the Robbers Cave and then vanishes under the ground and reappears a few meters further.

Robbers Cave is approximately 8km from Dehradun and is open from 7 am to 6 pm.

02. Take A Dip In The Medicinal Waters Of Sahastradhara

Sahastradhara meaning “a thousandfold spring,” is a tranquil Sulphur spring close to the Robber Caves.

The name Sahastradhara comes from the numerous waterfalls present in the region. The place is popular for its water’s medicinal and therapeutic value as it contains Sulphur.

The waterfall cascades over the stalactites, making them rich in Sulphur. One can spot a plethora of Himalayan vegetation in the surrounding region.

03. Calm Your Senses At The Tapovan Temple

Also known as Maha Rudreshwar Shiv Mandir is situated amidst lush greenery in the arms of the Doon valley; the tourist throughout the year visits this temple. The temple is known for releasing tension and providing a sense of calmness.

On entering the temple, visitors can witness the huge statue of Lord Shiva. A Shivalinga rests in the temple’s sanctum sanctorum, and stone sculptures of several Hindu deities are visible around the temple. Some of these are Lord Hanuman, Goddess Kali, and Goddess Durga.

The temple houses are several dedicated green spaces suitable for devotees to sit down and practice meditation.

04. Visit The Malsi Deer Park

Malsi Deer Park, also known as Malsi Zoo, has a plethora of flora and fauna. The vibrant wildlife includes nilgais, Himalayan antelopes, rabbits, tigers, and peacocks. The place is ideal for kids, nature lovers, and photographers.

The herds of deer move around freely in their habitat, which ensures a fantastic sight before the eyes of its visitors.

Different species of birds are also found inside the park, all giving a mesmerizing view. There are fun rides and space for games for kids too.

The park is 10 KM away from Dehradun City on Mussoorie Road.

05. Shop Your Heart Out At The Paltan Bazaar

Paltan Bazaar is the oldest market in Dehradun. You can find anything here, ranging from clothes to accessories.

Dehradun markets have good quality woolens found in them. The market has Tibetan artifacts and various souvenirs. There are restaurants in the market where you can find authentic Kumaoni cuisine.

The market is also famous for selling the fragrant Basmati Rice. It’s considered to be the best quality rice in India.

06. Marvel At The Architecture Of The Forest Research Institute

The Forest Research Institute is an educational and also tourist spot. It is admired for its magnificent architecture and is famous for providing education and research in forestry studies, climate, animals, and birds of the Himalayan forests.

Built-in the Colonial and Greco-Roman style of architecture, the institute is dedicated to forest research.

It spreads over 4.5 square kilometers, and the campus is sprawling. It’s a major tourist attraction for its serenity and beauty.

Open from Monday to Friday, and timings are 9 AM to 5 PM. The entry fee is around Rs.10 per person.

07. Visit The Mindrolling Monastery

This Mindrolling Monastery is one of the largest Buddism hotspots in India and draws tourists all year round. It’s an architectural marvel as well as a purity sanctum.

A visual treat to the visitors, it has the tallest stupa in Asia. Surrounded by lush green Himalayan vegetation, the monastery has numerous shrines, artwork, and murals.

Originally built in the year 1676 by Rigzin Terdak Lingpa, and was re-established in 1965 by Khochhen Rinpoche.

On the 4th floor, visitors would witness a huge open space from where they can have a 360° view of Dehradun Valley.
